  13. This has probably been answered already, but just in case.

  15. Font glyphs cannot be created from metric files such as TFM or AFM
  16. because they do not contain enough information.
  17.  
  18. VFs are not fonts.  They are a complex system of mapping to make
  19. contributions from several fonts look like one font.  
  20.  
  21. PostScript glyphs exist in either resident form in your printer, or
  22. in non-resident form as *.pfa or *.pfb files.  If they are in your printer,
  23. you are out of luck, because you cannot read them back out of it
  24. for conversion.  (Actually it would be possible, but rather a
  25. breach of the implied font use license to do so.)
  26. If you really need the glyphs as bitmaps, you can 
  27. either license the fonts you need from Adobe, and then convert them
  28. to bitmaps via ps2pk or ps2mf, or switch over to something like
  29. Utopia, Charter or Nimbus, which have been contributed to public
  30. use by Adobe, Bitstream and URW respectively.

  32. Monotype licenses packs of wonderfully fonts at very reasonable
  33. cost.  It is a bit of a pain
  34. making them usable in TeX, but there are some real goodies in the
  35. Monotype library.
